Dune: Part Two

After watching in 3 different formats now I think visually this movie is just off the rails, some of the cinematography on show is some of the best in recent times but I’ve come down from the hype and had some time to think! This movie is still great! It’s exceptional filmmaking at the highest degree and what Denis and co have done here is amazing and this will stand the test of time I’m sure.  But for me anyway like part 1 I just think it still does suffer from not being fully fulfilled! Not as much as part 1 but I just think overall there both I guess anticlimactic. Not that this is a huge thing but Denis has focused on big picture here with both movies and this whole dune saga and I do just get the feeling that the whole experience does falter because of this. To me I do get that feeling of not being fully fulfilled after giving nearly 6 hours of my time in this universe and not really getting an ending to the story in both movies! Part 1 more than part 2 but just as a whole. What I would say is kind of my main issue is pacing, I think it’s maybe too harsh to say it’s messy but I think saying it’s too rushed is a valid point. It does suffer from uneven pacing in certain areas of the film like the ending to be more specific ( the battle scene) is quite rushed. The first act I actually quite enjoyed the slow pace then the middle hits a bit of a lol but it’s not terrible cause you’ve got neat dialogue and action but I just think it could’ve maybe been a better paced movie. What I also think is I don’t think it does enough with its runtime and even saying that is a bit crazy cause its such an epic that’s  nearly 3 hours but I just don’t think it says enough or does enough to really warrant that kinda runtime as it does so well in building up depth and just the narrative throughout but the type of ending we got it just never really showcases its peak or enough as we are always just balancing on the edge Denis never really goes over it! I still really like this film! It blew me away on first watch and I think it’ll be up there for one of my favourites for years to come for sure but I’m not stupid enough to say it hasn’t got any issues! Bravo
