Normal People
So basically this is just La La Land for people with traumatic high school relationships/situationships that wasted half of your life. great.
anyway here is my live breakdown as I watched every episode in the last 3 days.
- episode 1: i am Marianne and she is me and i know little fuckboi connell is going to destroy both in the next 20hrs
- episode 2: some of y’all romanticizing this really never fell in love with your best guy friend in high school and spent a year and a half sneaking around hooking up telling no one before “coming out” in uni and it shows
- episode 3: may this type of love never find me (wait it already did and ended about the same way i expect this to, wasting 10 years of my life)
- episode 4: well fuck me now i really relate to connell and being middle/low middle class at a elite private school with all these fucking asshole rich kids who’ve never had to work a day in their lives
- episode 5: Marianne really is just like me she knows what she wants
- episode 6: fucking dumbasses both of them. But also like Marianne I feel you with that sigh of relief after that first PUBLIC display of affection. like with my ex, we were together 10 years and because of the secrecy in high-school some of our friends had never seen us even hold hands much less hug or kiss. But still they are both idiots.
- episode 7: ok I literally had to pause this 5 minutes in because I was like how the far apart is sligo and Dublin and its like 2.5-3hrs depending on traffic. Like 1. connell you cant grow a pair and just ask to live with your best friend/gf for 8 weeks? Also YOU SERIOUSLY CANT HANDLE 8 WEEKS OF LONG DISTANCE. Like what is wrong with you both. Also Marianne you love him you could’ve asked him to stay like wtf seriously 2 episodes ago I was complimenting you for knowing what you want and going for it and now you wont even ask if he wants to stay with you? He’s only leaving because he cant make rent. And you’re going to turn around and fuck that asshat jaime? Clearly this is just an unfortunate like 20 hrs of having to watch an anxious attachment/avoidant attachment relationship and I hate it because its me.
- episode 8: jaime is literally the fucking worst. Why the fuck is Marianne like this. Why cant connell and Marianne both pull themselves together so they can just do life and stop with the inability to communicate and the other bullshit
- episode 9: I really get Marianne in this episode.
- episode 10: guess they are both just 2 depressed bitches taking turns being suicidal like me and my best friend. Also I don’t like Hellen, idk why but I don’t. Yah I don’t like her. You can tell this was filmed pre-2020 b/c they use Skype not zoom, but also, I remember falling asleep with skype/ft on, its a different level of intimacy. I also really relate to connell in this and like struggling to connect and the feeling of isolation. Deep connections for me are hard and rare, and really I only have ever felt that way with 2 people, my friend I’ve known since I was 3, and my ex who I knew since I was 12.
- episode 11: again they really just need to get over themselves or never talk again. I saw another review that said “if you’re lonely and horny don’t watch this” and I completely agree. connell is both the best and the absolute worst. You would think after trying this a million times he would finally figure it out. I kind of hate both of them but I also am kind of both of them. Watching them both cry is killing me. I know he said he wouldn’t let anything like that happen to her again, but I’ve been there and the “connells” are never right.
- episode 12: thank god they finally ditched those rich assholes. Mariannes mom and mine would be best friends. there really is something special about driving back to your hometown with a high school sweetheart, not having to explain anything, knowing each other’s families and their issues, already having your favorite spots. In all honesty, it’s one of the few things I miss. That first in public new years eve kiss in front of everyone from high school. That just cut me to my core. My god are they really this diluted about long distance. Like it’s not that deep as long as you trust each other and have a plan. If it’s permanent then yah a different conversation, but temp even 2 years, thats easy. Like yah “letting go to follow both of their careers” but a year is so so short. You could at least try long distance if you loved each other. If you want anything bad enough, it’s possible.
