Chinatown

I used to think Jack Nicholson stole the show with this performance. BUT FAYE DUNAWAY absolutely beautiful performance. At first it’s easy to write off the subtle unsettling feeling in her performance but when understanding the ending makes them make sense her performance is a tell the entire time. From her line delivery to her actions the crossing of her arms after making love when Jay Gittes mentions he met with her father. The subtle pauses and stutters the uncomfortable nature when questioned of her husband’s death and comfortable look when hearing of the woman her husband cheated on her with. The motives seems for the right reasons but in actuality it hides more than there is we don’t question the unsettling factor in the context of the time in the first watch.
