The Comedy

I’m a big fan of a lot of what Tim Heidecker does (especially his music), but this movie missed the mark for me. For a guy as funny as he is, a lot of the jokes in this weren’t even remotely funny. So much so that I’m wondering if they are unfunny on purpose just to make Swanson seem more like a douche than he already did. The scenes where he is shooting the shit with his friends make me feel like this about a man who is sturggling. While it might be ugly, that’s what it looks like and those brief moments with people he loves offer a glimpse into who he really is. Or maybe I’m just reading way too into this. Either way, I like seeing Tim’s work of all mediums, and though this isn’t my favorite, you bet if he were to drop The Comedy 2 next week, I’d see it opening night.
