I honestly don’t get all the hate for My Sister’s Keeper. Cancer is, and always will be, a subject that deserves to be talked about.
The movie handles it with some genuine emotional weight, even if it stumbles along the way. One of the big mistakes is how much the story leans into melodrama. Also, changing the ending from the book really upset a lot of people since it took away part of the original message. But despite these flaws, the film does some things right. It **captures the complexity of family dynamics during illness, the overprotective mom who refuses to give up even when her determination turns into selfishness.

It shows the struggle between love, control, and sacrifice in a very raw way. And above all, it makes the audience reflect on autonomy, family bonds, and what it means to fight for someone you love. It’s far from perfect, but it’s definitely more meaningful than people give it credit for
