To mark the recent thirtieth anniversary of Sergio Leone’s death, this documentary sets out to pay tribute to one of the great legends of world cinema. The singular artistic vision of Sergio Leone has transcended national borders, creating the Spaghetti Western genre and transforming the international cinematic panorama forever with his innovative stylistic and narrative solutions, which have now become part of the language of the movies. The film, which is enriched with precious archive footage from the Cineteca di Bologna, including rare audio recordings and film clips shot behind the scenes, sees for the first time the direct participation of the Leone family and has interviews both with Leone’s longtime collaborators and with icons of Hollywood who have been profoundly influenced by his work.

Sergio Leone is one of my favorite filmmakers. And I think he is one of the best to ever do it. If not the best.

If you think so too, you might want to give this a watch. It’s a really great documentary about him and his film. It doesn’t dig too deep, but it gets it all right. It walks through his career and goes into all the things he changed, the immense influence he had and his journey as a filmmaker. It’s about the technical excellence of his film and about how talented he was as a director, storyteller and revolutionary.

It includes interviews with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino, Dario Argento, Darren Aranofsky, Ennio Morricone, Jacques Audiard, Frank Miller, Clint Eastwood, Damien Chazelle, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Connelly, Leone’s children and so many more collaborators, historians and filmmakers.

I had an amazing time watching this and it really made me want to re-visit Leones film, all of them. Cause seriously, he was one of the greatest to ever do it.
