the film started great. chi-wei had a strong personality, she obviously fallen at first sight with ching, and the cause of protest felt meaningful. after the part where they went to the sea, the plot started falling apart and just all over the place.
honestly, both me and my gf felt frustrated watching it. i couldnt wrap my head around why ching would still do ‘it’ with kuang despite her past. i know she's feeling vulnerable but it still made me uncomfortable. i really got annoyed watching it or just any intimate scene between a man and woman makes me uncomfy as a lesbian hahaha. we got even more frustrated when we saw that chi-wei is just being passed around.
i also missed the chi-wei from the beginning of the movie who was frank but it felt as if her character was overshadowed by the conflict between ching and kuang.
i really didnt like the whole love triangle tbh. the storyline could’ve been better and the impact could’ve been deeper and meaningful. i feel like the writers just werent inspired enough because i know what the protest wants to show, but i feel underwhelmed. i do not want to compare but because i kept seeing from the reviews how this is like YNEH.. its too far from it. i’m still giving it 3 stars because chi-wei and ching looked good on-screen and have chemistry (i really wish they had better writing argh), the cinematography is beautiful, and the ending. i still believe ching doesnt deserve chi-wei but i like seeing lesbians get their happy ending.
