A true masterpiece. I laughed, then laughed some more, then laughed a lot. And then I cried, I sobbed. This film contains every feeling: happiness, sadness, confusion, and anger.
Unlike my other 5-star rated films, this one does not include any crime, guns, killing, mafias, or plot twists. This film is solely about a family and their problems. Specifically, the mother's problems.
I don't know why I loved this film so much. Probably because it resembles my family. It allowed me to view a mother's perspective and understand her actions, which others deem improper or wrong.
The three characters are portrayed brilliantly.
The mother, who suffers from great pressure, depression, and loneliness, is seen as angry and rude all the time. This isn't entirely wrong, as her behavior has damaged her family. Her constant anger, which arose from fear, drove her husband and son so far from her that they don't even speak. She is not angry by choice, rather it is her coping mechanism, protecting herself from the outside world.
The father, who just wants a normal and happy life, never smiles at home. He leads a double life. Inside the house, he barely speaks, doesn't ask questions, practically only sleeps and eats there. Outside, he laughs with his coworker, he is happy.
The son, who has become so introverted, probably says no more than five words in the entire movie. His introverted state is not due to his personality, but rather due to the situation at home. No proper parents, no role models, no goals, and no ambitions. He goes out for walks, only to get away.
All three performances are outstanding.
I don't usually write long reviews, but this one struck a chord.
