At first I was not honing with this movie. The performances looked like they can be over the top to the point of belonging on the stage and not on screen.
It has an elements of other (far more memorable/successful) 90s Miramax indie films; Clerks, Pulp Fiction, etc.
By the end I was charmed just enough to have enjoyed my time with it. Paul Auster being an author who’s books I’ve read was a big reason I was intrigued to read this and it very much plays out like one of his books on screen, which has its ups and downs.
It was a film that felt it was lacking the urgency and, frankly, the believable performances to push it unit he realm of misunderstood cult classic, which I so badly wanted it to be.
