First and second act are fantastic, but the third act doesn’t hold up as well. It felt like Geoff Murphy was introducing more characters to make up for the movie naturally wrapping up. There is an entire scene that looks and feels like an organic ending but there was ~30 minutes left.
Despite the odd pacing decisions, I still think that it was an interesting take on “last person on earth” genre. Even though most of the information was spoon fed to us, it was done tastefully since the main character was a part of the initial problem (I’m willing to ignore the semi-lazy cop out).
My main gripe is how poorly developed the other two characters were, it felt like Lawerence was the only one with an ounce of development. Api is only there for getting mad at Zac and Joanne is only there as a love interest(s).
Bonus points: - The movie poster is super cool- Final scene is stunning - The score is well done and fit the story perfectly- Despite the small budget, the sets were surprisingly good. I did not expect them to be that detailed, city areas completely empty, and the insane amount of cars.
