I liked The Midnight Meat Train more than I expected to. It has a few good shots, some decent pieces of music, I think that having Leon be a photographer adds some interesting new depth to his character, and I think that, for the most part, it is a solid enough adaptation of an excellent short story. However, as many other reviewers have pointed out, the movie is squandered by its absolutely godawful CGI, particularly in most of the exterior shots of the train, a decent chunk of the interior shots of the train, and many of the kills (I particularly took offense to this when they gave one of my favorite character actors, Ted Raimi, barely any screen time and then gave him the dumbest looking kill in the movie). I do appreciate how they did the cosmic body horror ending of the original story, even though I think the short story pulled it off better. The creatures at the end actually look really good, especially when compared to the rest of the movie.
