Been reading reviews and staring at my screen for an hour and a half just trying to collect my thoughts about this movie, I was even struggling to think of what to rate this. Seriously at a loss for words.
Was this the best dogme movie I've watched? Far from it. Was it the worst? Also pretty far from it. The plot isn't as creative as others may have been and it didn't really challenge this "anti-genre" genre too much, but I still think it was pretty well done. Was very realistic (as are all dogme 95 movies...lol) and was such a probable what-if situation. Very honest depictions of adultery and how a household could fall apart in just seconds, really has you questioning "what WOULD I do in this situation?" Especially when it came to the nature of Joachim and Cecille's relationship. It felt a bit lackluster when it came to the minor details (such as the doctors), there were a few pacing issues, and the ending felt like "wtf" not in a jaw-dropping way but because it just ended really abruptly, otherwise I still like it. I think. Just a hard, hard watch.
The actors did a great job. Everyone did such great jobs at depicting their characters, I was really devastated for Marie. They really made me feel like I was living it. (Nightmare, by the way.)
Shouldn't have to be said but Mads Mikkelsen of course did an incredibly convincing wonderful job because despite him playing a young, handsome doctor, I did not care for how beautiful he was in this movie. Just wanted to beat him up the entire time. Idc if he looked so "young Hannibal Lecter" in this movie. TBH this movie feels like if en kort en lang wasn't a comedy and Mads wasnt gay. TBH Marie better than me I would've aired him out immediately. TBH Finn would've also been aired out. TBH.
