The entire story feels like it was blurted out by a dumb & drunk Colleen Hoover reader after a wine tasting, then the scriptwriters decided to run with it. The bottle messages, which fuel the entire premise of the film, is a plot device I could probably find in a romance novel I can buy for $2 in a T.J. Max clearance bin. The plot’s foundation is corny enough as is, but the entire progression has me repeating “why would they do that?” (“They” as in both the scriptwriters and the characters.)
Yet, despite its shortcomings, I was oddly captivated? Maybe it was the great soundtrack, or maybe it was the fact that this shot some scenes in a classic family vacation spot. I didn’t hate it despite how egregious I found the story, but I actually found it somewhat heartfelt in some parts. Maybe I, too, am a dumb & drunk Colleen Hoover reader after a wine tasting?
