The love that Ishmael hold just wasn’t attainable because of the state of their world, and yet he continued to love. Even through separation, war and even Hatsue getting married, Ishmael continued to support and love Hatsue even if it’s from afar. And this love that he holds and refuse to let go of, lead him to the truth. Truth about the case and for himself.
He managed to solve the case just to see the girl he loves happy, he searched for what justice and fairness because that was what Hatsue needed. And through the case and his never ending love for Hatsue, Ishmael progressed, he managed to live up to the expectations after losinh everything that he has including Hatsue.
Although Ishamel couldn’t bring back the love they once had, whats important is the passion he holds for Hatsue and how it changed his life forever. He couldn’t win her back, but he attained victory in serving her family truth and justice.
Ishmael couldn’t be with Hatsue, so he choose to just admire even if its from afar.

This is probably one of the prettiest film I’ve seen, she lighting, composition, cinematography EVERYTHING was just perfect. All the scenes from their youth just felt so raw and nostalgic, especially the montage of them in the snow, also their moments inside the tree was just so good!! every scene just feels like a work of art
