Jason Lives is the absolute peak of the franchise. It’s weird to say a Friday the 13th sequel is groundbreaking, but it was an early look at the meta horror genre that Wes Craven would popularize with Scream. The kills in here are great, even though some scenes were censored because the MPAA really hated this franchise. Its comedy makes this film different, but in a good way, unlike having a copycat killer in A New Beginning. It’s an engaging film from start to finish, with a better Tommy Jarvis than Part 5, likeable characters, which we haven’t really seen since Part 3. While I never really cared for this franchise the way I do about Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street or Scream, I do absolutely love this film and have a soft spot, which explains my high rating for a film that most people think is okay at best.
