'Friday the 13th part 6' is hands down the best in the franchise! Before I watched this, I was torn between 'The Final Chapter' and the 2009 remake for the top spot. Part 6 is the first film in the series that really tries to be a good movie. Even though parts 4 and 5 had their ups and downs, part 4 was the best to stick with the franchise's formula up to that point. Everything about Part 6 just fell into place perfectly!
The movie is way more self-aware, and that's something director ‘Tom McLaughlin’ should be really proud of. He knew the formula was getting old, so instead of trying something new, he just gave it a makeover while making it more, well, mainstream. It's still a gory and intense horror movie, but there's way less focus on the stuff from the earlier films. It's the only Friday the 13th movie without any nudity, and the only time there's a sex scene, it's just for laughs.
Also, I really like how Part 6 is the first movie to fully embrace Jason's supernatural side. This Jason has become one of my new favorites! He's brought back in a way that's almost like Frankenstein, making him almost unbeatable. He's not just tough, but he's also bulletproof and can punch through people, this dude literally folded a police officer like a lawn chair. This Jason freaked me out more than the one from ‘The Final Chapter’ and the ‘2009 remake’.
All in all, Jason Lives is a top-notch 80's slasher movie and definitely the best one so far in the franchise. It's a solid refresh and just a super enjoyable movie all on its own, which makes some of the not-so-great movies from earlier still worth it just to get here.
