It's not really as much of a horror/thriller as all the plot descriptions would imply. This was a fairly standard drama with tinges of thriller that is elevated by some wild performances. To be honest though, I'm not really sure if Bette Davis is amazing or kind of terrible in this. It's the 60's so it's too late to say it's just the classic overacting of classic Hollywood, so I don't know if she's doing way too much or if I don't fully understand her character (which is a real possibility). The story is definitely intriguing (if a little logistically improbable), but the even with the decent pacing, it feels too long. I gave it an extra star for the pretty good effect early on that certainly isn't up to 2025 standards, but still looked reasonably convincing (minus the blood). Just remembered my biggest issue, twice a character notices something is missing and even though it is obvious and we quickly notice too, they do the thing where they zoom way in and then go out and in and out and in to emphasize that the thing is missing. Bro, we get it; we're (probably) not that dumb.
