oh, wes anderson, i didn’t know you made movies for me
your movies are too alien — alien characters, alien colors, alien cinematography. human characteristics so on the fringe their holders cease to be relateable
this truly is a skill issue, but i think it’s core to why wes anderson movies don’t do it for me — should i weep for a hotel butler who speaks like a robot and shows no facial expression? is the entirety of the royal tenenbaums saved by the one, SINGLE peek we’re allowed behind the inhuman curtain — “i’ve had a rough year, dad”?
for me, no! i find the depth of theme you can achieve with such fringe characters to be underwhelmingly shallow. if you’re making a character drama, why not start from shared ground so you can make a more interesting point? why invent a new language and teach it to your viewers before truly beginning?
…
that’s the headspace i entered fantastic mr fox in, which is hilarious, because it is the perfect position from which to have your shit rocked by this specific movie
this movie gave me chills, made me cackle and tear up and feel so, so alive. i haven’t felt this way since finishing ping pong the animation for the first time, years ago
i adore this movie
…
humans are animals
we’re a messy balance of primal desire and long range planning — we must repress some part of ourselves to participate in society
and yet we yearn to be unrestrained — to ride our natural talents to the fullest extent possible, consequences be damned
the most alluring people in our lives are the ones living shamelessly as themselves, who know what they want and pursue it relentlessly. wild animals do not think. they act
it’s intoxicating when a such a being locks eyes with you — we watch with awe and envy and lust and fear as they carve through the world
and yet to be free one must act without thought. pure flowstate is incompatible with consideration for those around you
…
“i love you, but i shouldnt have married you”
the wolf is entrancing. but it ultimately lives and dies alone
perhaps it’s best we shed a tear and wish it luck
✊
