Oh man, this is much worse than I remembered...
Okay first of all, it's crazy how this is literally the only spawn movie we have ever gotten. Compare that to other underrated comic characters like hellboy, kick-ass or even the crow who have gotten more movies even though spawn is the most popular out of those, at least that I know of. I guess there is a new spawn movie coming out, so I hope that that will be much better than this crap.
Even though this movie has many problems and I speak harshly about this movie, it still holds a special place in my heart for not just being the only spawn movie but also because.. I can't lie, it was pretty entertaining if you don't take it too seriously.
I wish this was a bit more dark and egdy, like it's supposed to.
The story is pretty messy and goes too fast kinda but I guess this would be a great introduction point for someone who wants to get into spawn, but can't read the comics for example.
The CGI in this movie is one of the worst I've ever seen in a film. The Hell scenes are so hideously bad, that you can't take this movie seriously with them thrown in there, they look so fucking goofy. Other effects too are pretty bad, but the cape and suit effects were good imo.
Speaking of the suit, I think that is probably one of the only good things about this movie cuz they absolutely NAILED that costume , holy shit that looks real and so good, especially the mask.
But of fucking course they had TO FUCK IT UP AGAIN AND BARELY EVEN USE THE MASK AND CAPE. WHATS THE POINT OF THEM EVEN SHOWING UP AT ALL??? Bro they looked so good why didn't they use them , for majority of the film we just have to look at spawn's ugly ass head.
Makes me sad honestly.
I also wish spawn would've used more weapons than just machine guns and spikes from his suit.
Idk maybe it's just me but somehow spawn felt a bit mischaracterized in this. Like he's supposed to be very depressed and "sad man" like Cyan says. But he throws jokes in this like he wasn't just betrayed, killed and resurrected from the dead.
Side characters and the cast as a whole were very good tho.
Overall, very mid and horrendous CGI,but a good starting point if you wanna get into spawn and like the basics of the character and mythos.
