One of the most tonally interesting films I've ever watched.
At the start it's a very disgusting, but realistic depiction of the prison protests these people were conducting. But there is a turning point in this that made it go from a 3 star to a 4½ star film.
In the middle there is this 17 and a half minute scene, where two people are talking, without a cut, with one static shot. That's it. It made you focus on the conversation and it also made it that more interesting. And on a technical level, the actors had to move in with eachother and practice it 15 times a day for weeks to know it by heart. And they nailed it on the fourth try. Absolutely amazing.
The scenes that follow until the end are quiet, long and somewhat peaceful. There are only a few lines of dialogue in all of those scenes combined. Those are exactly what I loved about this film.
What I also have to talk about is Michael Fassbender's body transformation for this role. It was wild. Some extreme dedication.
If it had the first half cut out it would easily be a five star film for me.
