“Premutos - Der gefallene Engel” is a german extreme gore extravaganza and most of it is just beautiful. I watched the director’s cut, which is a bit longer and had a mostly great time.

It was my first film by Olaf Ittenbach, but it definitely will not have been my last.

The film starts with an epic animated intro which is followed by super gory opening credits and I just loved it. I was instantly hooked.

I enjoyed the cheap production, the bad ADR and the ambitious although slightly amateurish direction. You can really tell how much love and hard work went into this film and it really feels like a passion project.

The comedy and slapstick moments are rather funny and the incoherent absurdity of it all was very entertaining. And all the flashbacks are great, despite the incredibly cheap production value. I enjoyed it a lot, but the birthday party at the end kinda lost me. The whole part and the subsequent battle with the zombies didn’t do much for me. I generally tend to not enjoy overlong and repetitive sequences like that. But apart from that, I really had a great time.

And the gore is such a pleasure to watch. This really is an extremely gory and violent film with a ton of cool and disgusting effects that are very well made. Like seriously, the gore looks great. They really got everything out of the small budget and made some gore effects that can really compete with the big ones.

“Premutos - Der gefallene Engel” is a trashy gem of german extreme gore. It’s overly ambitious in its story and kinda loses itself in the last third, but still is a ton of fun. Looking forward to my next Ittenbach.

All things considered this is a pretty bad movie with terrible acting, a very boring second act that is a bit overly long and jokes that fall flat. However, the opening & final act are so utterly insane, brutal, crazy and damn entertaining! It’s like a zombie action movie on crack, with amazing practical effects and a huge array of weapons from pistols, shotguns to chainsaws. The Unearthed blu-ray looks great too, and I would recommend this one to fans of zombie movies! Don’t expect anything amazing, but it is a super entertaining and fun watch. Olaf Ittenbachs’ best work!
