it’s hell. i don’t think it’ll last though.

i had weirdo crunchy parents in the mid 00s-early 10s and this is pretty much what i remember life being like. hanging out with my mom’s friends from her younger years. play dates with random girls i had never seen before and would never see again. the busy mall. art galleries and shows and get togethers and kickbacks at their store. just the look and feel of it all. my parents have changed a lot since those days. sometimes it makes me sad. but haven’t we all?

THAT HOME IS SO BEAUTIFUL OMFG. IM JEALOUS.

made my grandparents watch this with me because when i watched it the first time it reminded me of growing up with them and i missed it and now i live with them and i maybe miss it less

I fell deeper and deeper in love with this movie after every shot. Yes, I did find Lacy ever so SLIGHTLY bratty (but weren’t we all as children) I feel like with such beautiful and soulful shots it made it worth it. 

You could just tell how much Annie Baker cared about the amazing work she was putting out. The cinematography really does an excellent job on capturing such a vivid yet refreshing view of what childhood looks like. 

Additionally, the characters really struck home, a quit but intelligent child exploring their budding sexuality having such a deep bond with a struggling mother really spoke to me. Yes, the strangers Lacy stayed with were all so rich and dynamic but just didn’t resonate with me as much as the mother daughter duo. 

Also also also the sounds of nature echoing throughout the movie felt grounding and really tied everything together :)
