I don’t know how to put this movie into words. I don’t see how people empathise/sympathise or with that this movie makes Mengele look sympathetic in any way. He is portrayed as a human, and that’s very important. That’s the quintessential message, that everyone can fall into this type of “evil” when under the right or rather wrong circumstances.
I watched this movie at the Berliner Premiere which was honestly a great honour since I never went to a premiere before. I still have to let the movie sink in, maybe rewatch it.
It’s a very slow and intentionally long movie. Every scene is uncomfortable in one way or another and especially the segment where young Mengele is shown at “work” brought about a sense of absolute despair in me personally.
I can understand if people dislike this movie, it’s definitely not for everyone but still a very important and relevant movie right now.
