Pretty disturbing, but has a real sense of wit and a genuine snappy energy that keeps you easily moving along the whole time. Mild Reservoir Dogs vibes. Satisfying and tastefully ironic revenge story that lends itself really well to the criticism of an (easily criticizable) evil part of society and the small-time, 'ordinary' people that enable evil consytructs.

Also really enjoyed Kurosawa's sense of visual perspective here. A lot of really fun, beautiful shots; he really is one of my favorites with the camera. Some great blocking and has several transitions/angles that make you laugh before anything really even happens.

A great thriller sorta comedy. 

Nothing funny about the subject matter but the way the characters go about certain things is very comedic. 

A great story that kept me engaged the whole time, always keeping you guessing what’s next.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa has got me, once again, utterly mesmerized. How does he always do it? You can always expect detachment to be portrayed in the silence that always makes sure to stretch uncomfortably in his movies, and yet there will always belie a philosophy behind it. There will always be terror hiding in the corners of KK's beloved derelict industrial buildings. Behind every frame, every gun shot, every equation, there lied the hints of the future that was about to unravel... jumping straight to the stark difference between Miyashita's loose-cannon ambition and Nijima's more methodical one, the pair teamed up to revenge the death of Miyashita's murdered daughter. What started as what seemed to be a simpler motivation quickly escalated into something more complicated, like a spider web of lies that has been clandestinely treaded from the start. It nudges grey areas like unethical shady business, manipulation, and a nihilist approach... the movie ended proudly with Miyashita's ignorance feet, unknowingly pulling him to Nijima's calculated gravitation. One of the bests, truly.
