This movie feels alive in a way I haven’t felt before. It has a pulse, a rhythm that drives it and keeps you hooked. Just the perfect amount of “on the nose” in its dissection of the Hollywood machine. Fascinatingly shot, characters talking over each other in shots within shots, long panning shots that behave like a Rube Goldberg machine of controlled chaos, humorous still frames serving almost as cue cards between acts.
A perfect example of film declamation, as something is discussed in the dialogue it is also occurring to the film from the outside. Uses this to its strength as you’re left wondering if the film will play into its own self fulfilled destiny or not. Loved this. Slowly working my way up to watching Altman’s Nashville, but wow this is tough to beat.
