100I’d like to address the philosophical views through out this movie.Every character is deeply nihilistic, or you can even call them hostile nihilists. They all seem to have no morals at all, and often show that they really don’t care. But for some reason u still can see that they don’t know that nihilism exists? (Or at least the short brother and sister)
You can see how much worse the sisters life gets as the movie goes on. You can really see that she is some kind of anti-natalist when she kills the baby at 2:12. (I might be wrong about that because she says like 2 min later. “Here, god. A cremation for you. This should make you warm during the winter this year. Good for you, God” so I guess she is just an hostile nihilist or sum.)The other characters through out the movies don’t show any morals as well (as I said before)Makoto, the main character. You can clearly also see some nihilistic traits in him to. But not the kind of hostility u see in the others. In him you just see the casual existential nihilist. But he’s definitely more than just that. He clearly don’t see that you can’t have meaning. So basically a pessimistic nihilist.
And then we also have Natsuko who I guess just were a moral and existential nihilist as well. You clearly see that he don’t care anymore when his sister dies. (Probably never did💀🙏)But anyway you see that he don’t serve any purpose when he starts to kinda eat people to. Like he kinda thinks “why don’t do this, if it doesn’t matter anyway” he just kinda sees how pointless it is.
And basically everything is the same with the homeless guy🤷
Also the conclusion for this movie shows some incredible symbolism that I feel like only some people will understand. Such as mental exhaustion or maybe even insanity.
Peak cinema.
