I watched this before going to sleep last night and I had a dream where I was trying to explain this film to someone. It was a LONG dream. This film is about many things. Post-war trauma, love, jealousy, work life, poetry, a secret mob/government operation, and all while we follow a butterfly across countries showcasing this turbulent time period in Japan.
This is SO BEAUTIFULLY shot. Every other shot captures the feeling you get when you see a striking photo but some how makes it move. These shots are so vivid I could sometimes visualize the colors even though its all black and white.
