light, convivial, genuinely fun. on the surface it is a comedy thriller about a couple who become convinced their neighbor murdered his wife, but what it is really about is an aging marriage looking for something to shake it out of comfortable coexistence. the mystery is the jolt. the thing that wakes them up and reminds them they can still be excited by something together. that is the more interesting film underneath the fun one.
there is an unavoidable biographical dimension to it. this is the first post-Farrow film with Diane Keaton, who feels like she is playing herself here and watching the two of them together you can feel a real history between them that no amount of acting fully explains. the chemistry is just there. meanwhile Allen was making this while being investigated for child molestation, which is so you know I guess. a breezy, warm comedy about domestic life made under those particular circumstances. I don't know what to do with that information exactly. the film is too enjoyable to dwell on it for long.

The shots were great but the married couple that doesn’t like each other was not entertaining for me. Also didn’t get me that invested in the mystery
