love love love the puppetry and practical effects they used and the critique of tradition and patriarchy was really the cherry on top.
genuinely unsettling to watch the puppet Gorcha move so inhumanly and yet be blindly obeyed by his family members. Sdenka and Piotr forever trapped in the household due to the “dishonor” they bring their father. the way Jegor uses his strenghn to protect and allow the literal rotting corpse of his father to reign as a tyrant to the detriment of everyone else? wow
