Happy Gilmore minus the laughs! I wish this had been 20% more dramatic/comedic/suspense-driven, but I still had fun with what it was! By the last hour you’re just watching a guy golf, but I like that so it worked. Kevin and Cheech are a great duo, and their humor makes up for the weird love triangle stuff with Rene and Not Shooter McGavin. I will say that this movie had no stakes (not even grandmas house up for auction) or repercussions, so everything pretty much went off without a hitch and no one learned any lessons. They even go so far as to emphasize that point out loud in the sloppy and unneeded final scene, drawing attention to something that otherwise could have been chalked up to the characters’ naivety had they not acknowledged it! Still worth checking out if you like sports movies, pre-Yellowstone Costner, or golf movies that go heavy on the golf and skip the gophers!
