honestly, the first time i watched this, it didn’t fully hit me. i understood the plot, i followed the story, but yeah… yaudah gitu aja.
and today i watched it again, thanks to KlikFilm, ily KlikFilm.
then…suddenly, this movie made more sense to me. even all the small details i didn’t even think about before.
i’ve seen some people say this film just “film homo anak kecil,” and i really hate that. how can you berpikir tentang film ini, sedangkal itu? however this film carries so much more than that for me.
like…i love how this film shows that we are the real monsters.
because every time the story shifts to another perspective, we realize we’ve already judged them. we’ve already assumed the worst without knowing the full truth. and each new point of view slowly breaks down those assumptions.
and that’s exactly how society works. anything that doesn’t fit what’s considered “normal” is quickly labeled as ***strange, wrong, something to be feared, even a monster.
***
the headmaster, from the start we know she’s grieving. then we’re shown why but at the same time, we’re told she’s lying and shifting the blame to her husband. even until the end, we never fully understand why she chose to lie.
but to me, it feels like her guilt goes beyond grief. like she doesn’t think any punishment is enough, so she chooses to carry that guilt herself. maybe blaming her husband is her way of making the pain heavier something she believes she deserves to live with for the rest of her life.
then there’s the teacher. probably the clearest example of how society becomes the “monster.” from the beginning, we’re led to think he’s a bad person. the way others talk about him, the way he showed with his ‘creepy’ smile, it all shapes our judgment. but when we finally see things from his perspective turns out he’s just another victim dari society itu sendiri.
and then minato and yori…
i think everyone cried for them, i did too. because in the end, they’re the real victims.
their lies, the way they blamed the teacher, it makes them look “evil.” but in a way, itu bisa diinterpretasikan how society see them as the monsters.
and that’s the most painful part.
how society can make them hate themselves. make them feel like they’re “wrong,” “not normal,” “ill,” or they **shouldn’t even exist, just for loving someone.
**
i can’t menjelaskan lebih spesifik how i think about them but intinya ughhhh i hate this normal thing. and of course some monster would think they’re inappropriate and would burn in hell etc izinnn
why does there have to be a definition of “normal” that turns people hating themselves? duh.
then maybe that’s also why the ending is left open.
to make us think and reflect on how we see.
