I think Stone is the first director I’ve watched everything that he’s put out. I really like his style and his general view of the American empire if it still is crutched in a largely liberal western view. No matter the project he’s still willing to point the obvious fingers at the evils within our palaces.
I really like the biopic format most of the time and Josh brolin truly does a drop dead fantastic job as Dubya. I will say as the gray hair got more pronounced… a certain person in the news he may have looked more like.
Cheney could definitely be portrayed as more evil and calculating rather than largely monologuy/wormy. Combine Vice with this movie and it is the definitive bush admin on film. That being said as a historical drama I do not like how much Stone lionizes HW, (esp as much of a JFK head he is lol) and I don’t like the Dubya was hoodwinked narrative because it’s just not true. Was he a moron? Absolutely. Was he naive? Sure. Was he a largely good guy who got turned around by bad advice, fuck no. He was absolutely just as giddy and culpable as every one of those slobbering Neocons he had around him.
Anyways see this movie and listen to Blowback Season 1
