I was excited going into this since the animation was something I’ve never seen before and I enjoyed seeing the pastel style with the choppy frames. A score that brings a melody of wondrous delight and compliments the animated world so well. I didn’t mind the terribly paced dialogue because I found it funny how out of place the words sounded.
Happily following the childish rebellious behaviors, the meaningless feuds between other kids, the feeling of exploring the world alone at a young age and the beauty of living in an imagination in reality. There were a lot of high hopes for this film since the caliber of nostalgia and beautiful visuals were high.
The enjoyment slowed down due to the weak narrative. Its visuals couldn’t get back up by how poor and confusing it was to understand the message they were trying convey. It was trying to build some empathetic sentimental value by showcasing how our childhood really has a impact on how we are as adults. But the emotion and meaning to the initial character itself was plain and bland. Felt like nothing had been developed despite going through a chapter in his life.
