The Scarlet Letter

Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter was one of the few pieces of required reading I was assigned in high school that I actually enjoyed, so I was a bit disappointed to realize that this 1995 silver screen version of events bears very little resemblance to the plot of the book. The scriptwriters really took the term “freely adapted” and ran it straight off a cliff. 

This iteration of Hester Prynne is so extremely real and relatable though, because I too would gladly risk it all for long-haired, mid-thirties, billowy shirt-wearing Gary Oldman!!!

All I have to say is, yall are real lucky I was just two years old in 1995 when these came out. Cause I legitimately would have fought to the absolute death defending this movie and Demi’s performance. 

The only laughable aspect is whatever the hell Robert Duvall is doing. 

I was riveted by this from beginning to end, the chemistry between Gary Oldman and Demi Moore was out of this world and we all already know this but, Demi is the worlds best on screen crier. Bar none! 

God saved the world from my outrage, be thankful. But rest assured, I’m here now.
