this movie has been on my watchlist since sgiff 2023, but couldn’t watch it at the film festival due to its 18+ rating 😭 singapore’s censorship is horrible.

i’ve finally got around to watch it and woww this movie means so much to me now. as a 17 year old closeted trans femme, this movie made me nostalgic, and even though i haven’t transitioned and didn’t transition young, i saw so much of myself in lucia. it also reminded of my large indonesian extended family, the relationship dynamics, and that feeling of judgement that just doesn’t go away. i’ve mostly come into terms with my identity through just growing up on the internet, but the conversations that the main character has in this movie with her family are ones i would’ve loved to have with mine, when i was coming into terms with who i am. one day, i want to have the difficult conversations with my family, i will come out and hope they will accept me for who i am!!
