I thought that as an australian, if there was one thing i was historically educated on, it was ned kelly. I always felt like i had heard so much about ned kelly. I've been to glenrowan. I saw his death mask. I've seen sidney nolan's paintings in person. i've been to the big ned kelly. there are photos of me as a child with various ned kelly memorabilia. i thought i knew it all. but the one thing. the ONE thing, that nobody cared to mention to me, is that he was fucking irish. fucking. irish.
i wasn't mentally prepared to hear heath ledger's irish accent for 2 hours tonight. Don't get me wrong, it is a well known fact that I dont play around about heath ledger, but if there is one thing this man could NOT do it is pull off a convincing accent for the first 5 ish years of his career. brokeback mountain? showstopping. I'm not there? incredible. A knights tale? insane. the worst british accent i have ever heard and I say that with great sorrow. However, as previously mentioned, i don't play about heath ledger and i powered through my struggles with irishness.
I am glad I finally got around to this one. and accent aside, it was still pretty good.
