Satô comes up with some insane movie names and even more insane plot-lines to go along with them. im trying to watch his most popular films and oddly enough this is one of the easiest to find with english subs. Satô has such a distinctive style with his work. his use of camera is excellent with this film having some really nice shots of Tokyo and very distinctive set designs. this is a very gross and disturbing movie, but once again with Satô there is much more than just it’s subject matter.

there are clear feminist interpretations of this film & perhaps it’s criticising society as a whole about what is considered art. im not sure, but there is no doubt this is a film that will leave you feeling empty and disgusted. one of the most disturbing films ive seen in a long time, but i would recommend it for fans of Satô or Japanese cinema in general.

i really liked this. a symbol of women’s sexual empowerment being used as a weapon because of the male kidnapper’s feelings of emasculation, only to be reclaimed by the woman victim in question. the ending could not be more perfect! with that being said, some scenes felt redundant and others went on for a bit too long, which says a lot considering this film is barely over an hour long. the blood-covered vibrator is shocking! and then we see it again, and again, and again, for minutes and minutes and minutes…
