1/50 queer movies of 2026
26%-40%: bad has redeeming qualities
Going into this movie, I was hoping for the quirky 90s style of talking about being queer, which is to me still an enigma (Bring It On "fluent in fag"), but this disappointed on many fronts.
I'm legitimately okay with gay jokes as long as they are genuinely funny or aren't punching down the entire time. While some jokes hit the mark and were very funny, most just did not land.
This is the second role (Friends) that I know that Matthew Perry (Oscar Novak) has been in that has everyone assuming he's gay, which... idk, just interesting. Also, he does not look like an Oscar WHATSOEVER.
Neve Campbell (cool name, btw) (Amy Post) was such a poorly written female character; it was the most painful part of this movie for me, and that's all I'm going to say because I'm at a loss.
On a higher note, the best character was Oliver Platt (Peter Steinberg), who was the only legit queer character in this movie, which I did appreciate. Oliver is also a banger in The Bear, highly suggest.
