Running in Madness, Dying in Love

What an amazing title 
I loved loved the beginning act 
Honestly the first half is all so so good 
But then second … idk man 
It gets a little in your face but not so much in a good way for me 
The explicit nature of it very quickly goes from a strength to a weakness in my eyes 
I’ve rarely seen sex displayed so surreal and dooming but it worked so well
It was almost disorienting 
The music was definitely the strongest and most consistent aspect for me despite the leads
I thought they were doing a pretty great job and had incredibly good faces
Idk how to put that actually 
They were just so open and vulnerable 
I felt like I could read them completely it really pulled me in 
I won’t forget a lot of this 
It was that good for a good while 
But the parts that didn’t click really really didn’t and it’s not hard to see what or why 
God the ending was so good too

now we see the violence inherent in the system

classic wakamatsu. some great imagery here, particularly in the last half hour. the exploitation and pinku elements feel secondary to koji and masao's incendiary politics, as usual in their collaborations. very bleak conclusion. those unwilling to break violently from tradition will themselves be broken by the violence of tradition. bummer, man. but that hay bale romp is beautifully shot.
