Honestly I don’t like silent films but truly the meaning behind this one drew me to it, but I think I may have no media literacy at all cuz I don’t understand it

maya deren might actually be the goat idk what to tell you. over this past night i’ve become completely transfixed with her work. going into ‘meshes of the afternoon’ earlier i had absolutely no idea what to expect, i went in totally blind and since then her films are all i can think about. i have no idea how i hadn’t stumbled across her work before but i’m glad it’s happened now.

another Maya Deren masterpiece omg
I love the incorporation of dance and movement as a form of personifying the human psyche. The way she expresses the duality of her being –with one woman repeating the actions of the other in a different way, like a delayed and imprecise shadow.
The concept of rhythm intertwining with time makes it all the more dream-like.
