i initially watched this for a film analysis essay for a class but i’m reviewing this again because this documentary is so amazing. like actually. it was one of the most eye-opening, raw, and real things i’ve ever seen. the way these Black trans women spoke.. so unfiltered, so honest, so funny even. i just felt like i was being let into something intimate and powerful. it just is messy, beautiful, painful, hilarious, heartbreaking.
and visually, it’s stunning. the way it’s shot, the editing, the music.. it feels so personal and purposeful.
i think what i really loved is how much humanity this film gives to people who are constantly dehumanized. Black women, Black trans women, the queer community and the sex worker industry. and it shouldn’t feel rare to see that, but it does. and that’s the problem.
please, please watch this. and actually listen. this documentary seriously is beautiful.
