The original title of Taipei Story translates to “green plums and a hobby horse,” a Chinese idiom for childhood sweethearts. 

While it’s true that many childhood sweethearts grow up together, some simply grow apart. Stuck in the stark limbo between fondness for the past and the hope of a different future, Chin and Lung’s relationship plays out in a droll fashion— with the frustrated complacency of two people desperate to feel seen.

With beautifully coated neon cinematography, the addition of retro costuming and a large architectural set design will make you feel like our characters: muted in a world of loud technicolor.
