this was actually a rather frustrating watch because as a stand alone film it’s ok like nothing special really but it doesn’t have any of the key elements that made dirty harry so good. first of all he’s not even the main character like the villain and all the people in the studio get more spotlight and attention than him.
then we have his partner who is just like the most stereotypical asian person ever and we rarely see him interact with harry like the whole idea is that these people get close and that makes the deaths or near death experiences more impactful. also by this time you knew the swan wasn’t going to be the killer like there is no way they would do something that obvious.
also the motives of our killer are kind of messed up as well like he’s obsessed with this guy so he kills people from his list of celebs he thinks will die. like wtf that if anything this guy is just a mental patient who really needed better help than the careful and cunning killers that we’ve had for the rest of the films.
but worst of all harry doesn’t do anything controversial or pushing the boundaries like he kills only when necessary, he doesn’t use excessive force or do anything illegal they made him boring. this movie probably didn’t need to be made within this series and lacked a good deal of the elements that made them successful to begin with
