Cathy's Curse is equal parts enticing and boring. Almost nothing happens, the acting is so bad (especially the mother who seems to be remembering her lines in bits as she goes along), and the effects are terrible. I hovered on the brink of sleep for probably a third of Cathy's Curse. The only thing that was memorable is the absolutely shocking editing. The entire time, there was one transition. The rest of the time scenes just end, often mid-sentence or in the middle of the action. Any other movie would cut to reactions from other characters or something, but not Cathy's Curse. Rarely is an entire sequence played out fully. Even within the scenes, we get random cuts to different cameras with characters in different positions, showing different emotions, changing the entire tone of the scene. It felt like half of the movie is just close ups of Cathy's dead-eyed face that might even be stills. Everything is wrong. It's wildly inconsistent with everything. It felt like someone found a full movie (not a good one, but a whole one), made a highlight reel of important events, but still wanted people to see the movie, so they cut away right before the big action spot and jumps to a different scene. Cathy's Curse has a very clear main plot, but it's told through a series of confusing scenes that make no sense. Cathy's Curse is a bad, bad movie that almost manages to be a good, bad movie, but I don't think it quite makes it there. You can easily just watch Red Letter Media talk about it and you'll get a much better experience. If you are going to watch it, I strongly recommend the Blu-Ray. I watched the Mill Creek release (in the Chilling Classics 50 movie set) so of course it was super compressed and looked awful.
