I currently live on Fort Polk (recently renamed Fort Johnson), so when I happened upon this movie I knew I had to see it. I have to applaud the director, he did a great job capturing the overwhelming feelings of anger and despair within each soldier stationed here. To the untrained eye, it may seem like the production design team went through painstaking work making the base look like it did during the Vietnam war. However, it was actually quite easy for them because not a single change to the base has been made since then. My favorite part was when the main character shot his buddy in the eye with a blank round, and the guy was grateful to him because it meant he could escape Fort Polk. I’m just kidding, I love it here (frantically blinking ‘SOS’ in Morse code).
All jokes aside, this film was quite dull for a “war movie”. The performances were mostly good. The cinematography screamed early 2000s (comparable to 28 days later). Pretty mediocre over all.
Title card rating: 4/10, war movies have got to get more creative with their font choices.
