No one can capture the eloquence and storytelling of Shakespeare quite like Kenneth Branagh. The film is a stunning rendition and an intelligent demonstration of Branagh’s directing style, which is quite an impressive feat considering this is his directorial debut. The film was able to maintain the theatricality of the stage production while adding an epic grittiness to Henry’s war. Not to mention that gorgeous score! As an actor, Branagh was practically born to recite iambic pentameter, commanding each scene with a magnetic presence. I’m not usually a fan of Shakespeare’s histories, but this film was a job well done.
