had to watch this 6 different times through with my students and that eventually became pretty miserable. the cast is stacked and they do their best with a script that dick rides the historical figures it portrays. it ever so slightly touches on the fact that a lot of these guys were slave owners who were fighting to keep their slaves after Mexico decreed slavery illegal (there is a scene where Jim Bowie tells his slave that he can leave the alamo, but “you’re my property until the day I die and I will come looking for you” and also a few dialogues of the black men at the alamo talking about how they could literally walk out past the Mexican soldiers and would be treated as an equal). it is pretty long and not all that interesting but the battle scene is pretty good. would maybe recommend this if it was on tv and you had nothing else to do
