“As you go through life, Falk, there will be no shortage of people who will tell you what to do. But in the end, you're the one who has to pull the trigger.”
I despise Jerry, I actually dislike majority of the characters in this except for Bob and Brooke—the victims of these two terrible people.
Jerry is cynical and neurotic. He describes himself as not a “leaver”, we watch him go on a double date, fall in love with the other woman, and instead of telling his girlfriend, he lets her find out and leave on her own, all because he’s incapable of leaving. I truly felt disgusted by everything about him throughout this movie, maybe I held too much resentment for Brooke, but I just can’t stand Jerry at all. He’s extremely paranoid, treated Brooke terribly, and then was so infatuated with Amanda. I mean the fact that he just strings people along because he can’t reject others is just a terrible trait. He’s disgustingly spineless, I wish I enjoyed this the way everyone else seemed to.
I watched this film solely because I love Christina Ricci, but her character in this was just obnoxious. I assume that was the point, her consistent complaining and instability was probably made to be humorous, I just couldn’t agree with anything happening. She’s a serial cheater, manipulative, and selfish. Don’t even get me started on her mother.
I was just wishing for this movie to be over, the thing I liked most about this was the coloring, it was pleasant to look at, felt very warm and cozy. Maybe I could enjoy this movie another day, I can try and see the appeal, but the characters were just insufferable in my opinion.
