What Jake Vig doesn't know just might get him killed. A sharp and polished grifter, Jake has just swindled thousands of dollars from the unsuspecting Lionel Dolby with the help of his crew. It becomes clear that Lionel wasn't just any mark, he was an accountant for eccentric crime boss Winston King. Jake and his crew will have to stay one step ahead of both the criminals and the cops to finally settle their debt.

holy fuck this is terrible. kinda had everything i hate in movies! disgusting men and just that awful 2000s vibe that i blame tarantino for. boring story that tries to be more than it is.. really bad and predictable twists.
LITERALLY WOULD RATHER SHOVEL HORSE SHIT THAN WATCH THIS. it made me psychically hurt
id normally give this a star bc dustin hoffmans character and performance were pretty fuckin nuts
and also the main guy looked like a temu ben affleck and that made me laugh but the production quality and how hard the director tried made me way too annoyed for that
FUN FACTS.. yeah so theres like a molestation scene in this and the director didnt tell the girl about it because he wanted her to be “genuinely uncomfortable”
ya fuck this and i’m really confused how this has a 3.1 its easily one of the worst movies of all time

Anyone else remember CBS tv’s ‘Crimetime after Primetime’ programming schedule? If you do, you’ll remember the visual aesthetic of those early 90s Canadian crime shows—all neon-lit and flat, matte walls, all the women in push-up bras, and all the men (the leading ones, anyway) with square jaws?
This movie ‘looks’ and feels like an episode of ‘Silk Stalkings’ (albeit shot on film as opposed to videotape) that was written by someone who really, really liked Stephen Frear’s film ‘The Grifters.’
Edward Burns really seems to be trying to emulate Ben Affleck (for some reason) and failing, while his supporting cast — get this, Rachel Weisz, Paul Giamatti, Andy Garcia, Dustin Hoffman, Luis Guzman, Donal Logue, and Robert Foster! — all fail to salvage the clunky dialogue, much of which consists of Burns ‘explaining’ the ongoing con in the hopes that the audience will be surprised. Trouble is, you’ve gone into the movie knowing it is about a con, so the script’s vagaries are expected.
And then, to salt the whole affair, it ends with a Coldplay song over the credits (to be fair, they couldn’t have know it would age poorly—but they should’ve known it was a bad song in the first place).
