Waited a long time for this movie to show on YouTube TV again, and man it was worth it. This movie is fantastic. It provides such a great perspective of how fractured and different America was at the end of the civil war, while also breaking the mold of the 4 other Clint Eastwood westerns I’ve seen, with Clint not being the Lone Ranger like he typically is. The dialogue with Ten Bears was so well written, and honestly probably my favorite part. “Dying ain't so hard for men like you and me. It's living that's hard.” The dry humor is still there from his other movies as well, with the funniest character being the Cherokee. I give Clint a ton of credit for not only including the Native American perspective, but also casting only Natives to play Natives, even including a Navajo speaking only in her native tongue. My only critique would be that the “main” story is kinda forgettable for about 20-30 mins when they arrive in their new spot. But, I can let it slide because the ending really brings it all home. Call this glaze or whatever I just like westerns.
