this film on first glance looks like a boring and unoriginal horror flick, but the second half is genuinely some really great material.
the film starts with 2 men escaping a car crash, one of them severely injured. he goes to ask for help from a woman and her daughter. the film starts off relatively normal, it almost felt like the hitchhiker trope just except from your car, your house. the start makes you assume how the films outcome will be like, as the two men (specifically jack) torment the family. what i really liked was it really defies ur expectations, a simple home invasion film turned into a really dramatic and a wild west sort of horror, there’s no actual good side to root for, on one end you have 2 crooks who work for a higher power and on the other side you have a woman who tortured a woman, stole her daughter and drugged her husband. while i have a sort of empathy for the two men as they clearly don’t have many options but the woman feels psychotic and your perspective of her completely changes as you learn more and more about her house, a woman with her legs and arms amputated and multiple cameras in the house, as well as her murdering a police officer and her husband clearly showing disdain over her. it all adds up to show how the real evil masked it perfectly well. this felt like tangled with a bit of coraline, except live action and a little more boring. the twists are relatively unpredictable and it’s atleast nice to see majority of the characters get a good end, the dad and daughter the morally good characters get to live freely, her mother doesn’t but atleast she finally got an end after years of suffering, the two men after the money both deserve their deaths so i don’t care, and the other 3 : matty and the mother live together, so atleast they both get what they wanted. and jack is left in a basement with both his arms and legs cut off, with the same fate as the other woman. he should’ve just left matty lol. but i was entertained by this short twisty horror, and it made a decent conclusion.
